Live at Goner Records 6.26.05

Recorded “on a rainy afternoon in June” following a Saturday night
at the Buccaneer, this doesn’t have the sweat or explosiveness that the
previous night’s show surely did, but that’s okay, because Memphis
expat Greg Cartwright is a pretty great Sunday-afternoon songwriter,
one whose soulful voice and savant-like way with vintage-sounding hooks
works just as well with the volume turned down a little.

Cartwright and band overcome minor electrocution to deliver a
rousing set highlighted by solo chestnut, “Bad Man,” and a Carl Perkins
cover.

Live at Goner had a brief life as a charity CD-R in 2005 and
then got an official vinyl release in early 2006. This is its first
official CD release. Cartwright completists now have no excuses. (“Bad
Man,” “Tennessee,” “Carol”) โ€”ย CH
