Re: “Angry Mayor Responds to Critics on Statue Removal

Move that grave marker and his body back the Elmwood where it should be. There with the other dead of that era and there ideals. Do not forget there are still millions of actual slaves making our stuff every day. They are the underpinning of our way of life and that needs to see change. We would be hard pressed to find anyone in America really willing to do what that would take. Forrest continued the slave trade after emancipation with the "prison lease system" encouraging the incarceration of the poor nd uneducated which happened to be at that time newly freed slaves. http://slaveryfootprint.org

Re: “Angry Mayor Responds to Critics on Statue Removal

Since the Charlottesville attack, all Confederate monuments pose an imminent threat to the safety of local citizens as targets for Alt-Right violence.

Imminent threat of physical harm and loss of life has different implications than merely being "offended."

However, our weak mayor has to decided to take this call to duty as a personal insult, as opposed to an opportunity to be the hero that helped heal the scars of racism still festering in our city.

Re: “Angry Mayor Responds to Critics on Statue Removal

The mayor's response was essentially, 'But look what I've done for you ungrateful people,' and 'I have a black friend.' The lack of comprehension in this response speaks volumes. The mayor, despite his protestations to the contrary, is not helpless. Other cities have removed theirs, despite laws with actual consequences. This Tennessee law has NO PENALTY for breaking it. It's a toothless, unjust law protecting a monument to the false idol of white supremacy. These monuments do not belong in our city. Rev. Barber was speaking to this issue recently, and he mentioned that the monuments placed in the Jim Crow Era, (like Nathan Bedford Forrest was,) were voted into existence in a time when no women or people of color could vote. That means white men gave the permission for the monument to NBF to be placed in our public park. And who holds the reins of power in our city now, in 2017? White wealth. Has anything really changed? Citizens last Saturday were out in numbers to make their voices heard, and they got police brutality in response, and tone-deaf words from our mayor. Come on, Memphis. WE CAN DO BETTER.

Re: “Cohen to Introduce Articles of Impeachment against Trump

Steve always does what he can to protect us - and I am proud he was the one to first make this move. The county and the world need to be saved from any more of Trump's madness and bind hatred.

Re: “Doubling Down with David Kustoff

Birther smirther. This calls for a search for a death certificate. I believe the Thurmond Rule adopted in '03 prohibits the undead from holding Federal office.

Re: “Doubling Down with David Kustoff

Arises at night. Eats once a day. Avoids reflection. He may not be a vampire, maybe a really smart lizard. Nonetheless, constitutionally, there is no reason that Count Kustoff should not represent West Tennessee, I mean if it can be proven he ain't a lizard. Once we see his birth certificate I say, welcome to all children of the night.

Re: “Holding on Tight

Quindarious McGhay would be 13 years old today if Bill Giannini hadn't killed him. He'd be starting his last year of middle school next week. But Quindarious was killed by Bill Giannini two weeks before his 9th birthday - and three days before Santa was going to come.

Good ol' boy Bill is not only 5 years old, but he's enjoying his cushy job as a lobbyist and is hoping to run the gubernatorial campaign of a good ol' boy Republican buddy.

And Amy Weirich still has Quindarious' blood on her hands.

To my knowledge, Giannini has still never spoken to Quindarious' family, and has never issued an apology of any kind. He certainly hadn't when this article was published.

Re: “Cohen Tells It!

Addressing an apparent GOP effort to muddy the waters on the Russian inquiry not only takes no crap but gives it back where it came from. i agree to.

Re: “It’s Alive! Local Democrats Resuscitate the Official Shelby County Party

Michael Weakly, maybe they can return to their roots and elect a Bilbo or Faubus.

Re: “It’s Alive! Local Democrats Resuscitate the Official Shelby County Party

I'd love to see the Democrats come back from the dead because I want at least 2 choices at an election, but as long as they are aligned with the Libs who did all the revolting stuff they done they'll never be the same again.
