If I can get buckwheat soba noodles there, I foresee a happy tummy future.

Re: “Majestic Owners Plan New Concept for Beale Street Landing

The entire space needs a taste makeover. From the trashy gift shop to the prior restaurant that used to hand print signs and tape them around the space their is a lack of presentation. Of course the ugly orange box sitting on top of the building was a RDC add on and not in the original design. Translation: RDC has no taste.

Re: “Upsetting the Food Cart

You're right, it's just too hard to regulate disadvantaged small business entrepreneurs out of the food service industry if they aren't locked inside a building first.

Best to ban the whole mobile food industry. Last thing we need is some pleb bootstrapping himself up to a brick and mortar store and getting ideas above their station.

Keep that wingtipped boot down hard on those scrofulous peasants, that's the best plan. Lord knows if they ever get on they'll be the ones doing the neck stepping, so it's best to get those kicks in while they're down.

/\the above post contains satire.

Re: “Upsetting the Food Cart

Plus inspecting a fixed location is easier since you know where it is and where it will be tomorrow. A food truck or cart is .... MOBILE ! And can be hard to catch when its time for an inspection. And forget about surprise inspections since the HD doesn't know where you will be that day. Maybe food trucks/carts should register with HD and state where they will be operating each day and if they are operating elsewhere there should be a fine?

Re: “Liquor Before Beer …

I always heard the adage as "liquor before beer, never fear; beer before whiskey, mighty risky". And doesn't it sound more pithy? More alliterative? Or even more southern?

I agree it's good advice not to drink on an empty stomach, especially with hard liquor. I find bread is usually available at a bar, so it's a good idea to eat a little to provide a buffer against rapid alcohol absorption (sure recipe for a hangover). And watch the alcohol content in your beer -- there's much more variation these days among brands, especially with craft beers. It started with those "ice" beers, that were about 5 percent alcohol (stronger than the normal 3.5 percent mainstream beers), but now you might order a craft beer that pushes 7 or even 9 percent. I drink beer mostly for the taste, but unfortunately my drinking arm only has one speed setting, so I must avoid the high-alcohol beers!

Re: “Zaka Bowl Expands Menu, No Longer Vegan

I look forward to trying it. The cult of veganism is blind to its own shortcomings.

Re: “Zaka Bowl Expands Menu, No Longer Vegan

It sounds like he was going to close unless he made the change, so your option is no restaurant like Zaka Bowl or one that serves two non-vegan items.

Re: “Izakaya to Close

Holy crap, they really did have sushi and meatloaf on the same menu and then were surprised they were utilized as a fast-casual instead of fine-dining

I thought that was some kind of joke, but no, they really did that.

Probably best for everyone it ended as fast as it did with that level of decision making in the executive position.

BTW, now I really wanna know what smokey pulled pork would taste like in a sushi roll topped with BBQ sauce.

Re: “Izakaya to Close

@barf - my comment regarding likes/dislikes has nothing to do with your concern (or lack thereof) with your post's popularity but with its clearly unsuccessful execution and delivery of your intended message.

My concern lies with the negative, self-defeating, antagonistic attitudes too many people in this town have about living here. It's easy to bitch and be sarcastic and make negatively-toned jokes - but what does that accomplish? Sarcasm can be a wonderful tool but it can be incredibly passive aggressive, too. But hey, you seem to enjoy attempting to clarify your point(s) over and over in lots of different articles on this here website thingy, so carry on....

Re: “Izakaya to Close

Being a non business type I watched with great interest as this old diamond got her shine back. I wondered what kind of restaurant deserved such a place. Sushi never figured into my figuring. I just hope the house survives the folly.

Re: “Izakaya to Close

In general, I am not concerned with whether my comments are liked or disliked. The inability to appreciate context and realize certain subtleties is as much (if not more) a criticism of the reader as it is the author. If one stamps satire as such just so everyone can play along, it ceases to be satirical.

Maybe not being quite so concerned with comments associated with an article would help reduce the angst this situation has generated.

Re: “Izakaya to Close

Sorry, @barf - if you have to explain it, then it wasn't a very successful attempt a humor or sarcasm. Based on the number of dislikes of your comment, clearly others took yours at face value as well. Maybe a direct reply @FUNK would have helped relate the comments. Otherwise it just exists in a, er, sous vide?
