Re: “Tales of Two Cities: On the scene in Cleveland & Philadelphia

Wonderful and totally unusual pair of reports of this bizarre moment in American History ... if there is history to be written after all this. The Ark is a perfect symbol for this time when politics are being drowned by religion.

Re: “Memphis’ “Fed Up” Program Falls Short

Y'all, I am confused here; this has nothing to do with Fed Up and looks like it may have been written by AC Wharton. Could you explain?

You can split hairs and play word games all you want. Go ahead. Furthermore, I'm neither a Trump voter nor a Trump supporter, so your "pussy grabbing" reference means nothing to me in this particular discussion.

Well I'm not one to judge the gay porn stuff, and who couldn't use a little purge now and then, but when I get home I'm not really in the mood to battle

Cory901, borrow a dictionary. The word immigrant had no legal significance one way or the other. You may mean undocumented, which on the criminal continuum is way down the line from, say, pussy grabbing.

Re: “Cohen Seeks Answers About Recent ICE Raids Across Shelby County

Yeah, all those kids brought here by their parents at a young age are "criminals." They should just leave. So what if they're honor students or serving their country. Let's get that broad brush out and use it.

Illegal aliens are not immigrants. They are criminals, and they are criminals regardless of whether or not they've committed additional crimes during their illegal stay in this country.

Nashville? A bastion of white supremacy attracting disenfranchised white millenials from the coasts who have been gentrified out of the neighborhoods they grew up in? You don't say....

Re: “Latino Memphis Mobilizes in Response to ICE Surge

I think mexicans have been successfully scapegoated as causing the existence of black market labor jobs when in fact the main cause of black market labor becoming prevalent was a divorce epidemic that put many men in a position to want to hide their official income as much as possible. The fact that mexicans look different and possibly speak a foreign language makes them great scapegoats for a phenomenon that is actually caused by the child support and debt collection system which otherwise would reveal painful truths about how our society really values it's children. It doesn't help that these moral issues that don't involve immigration in anyway are also destroying the labor market. The problem isn't illegal mexicans taking black market labor jobs plenty of US citizens would gladly take to hide their income. The problem is conditions in which both workers and employers have greater benefit doing business under the table than over it.

Funk, do you think that the working class' opposition to immigration is cultural? ( as opposed to Levine's "letter of the law" standard)

Re: “Latino Memphis Mobilizes in Response to ICE Surge

The US has a state called New Mexico.

It's not too outrageous, considering much of the Southern US used to be Mexico, that Mexicans would want to live here.

The outrageous thing to me is that Mexicans can't freely cross the southern border, but Yankees can come down here with impugnity.

Let's deport the Yankees first. Mexicans being more Southern than the rest of us is all the more reason to welcome them here.

Re: “When Boy Scouts are Political Props

Funk, I don't know about your youth but "back in the day" the Boy Scouts were everywhere. I had friends in a chapter largely serving the Lamar Terrace that had their officilal pocket knives confiscated. Well at least the BSA tried.

Re: “Latino Memphis Mobilizes in Response to ICE Surge

Dave, Welcome to America. If you were to arrest everyone for "aiding and abetting" in the breaking of federal law, we'd have more inmates than taxpayers.

Re: “Latino Memphis Mobilizes in Response to ICE Surge

This is called "aiding and abetting" and is a federal felony! This group should be arrested for breaking federal law!

Re: “WREG to Be Acquired by Conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group

Because news agencies now fall into political/ideological niches, one has to be a more intelligent digester of the news. It starts with understanding WHAT you're watching. You cannot get all your news from ONE source. You have to switch around. I suggest you switch around WHILE breaking news is happening. I am continually switching between CNN, FoxNews and MSNBC. It's fascinating how differently they approach a topic. For instance, when the news broke that former (fired) National Security Adviser Michael Flynn only agreed to testify if he was granted immunity (unquestionably, a big story), if you were watching FoxNews at the time, you wouldn't even know that that story had broke. CNN and MSNBC were all over it. Yet, on FoxNews ... not a peep? Why? Is it because FoxNews didn't know about the event. No! It takes time to figure out how you're going to spin this into not-a-bad-thing. And, of course, that's EXACTLY how they spun it. To the Trump supporters: Are you sick of winning, yet?
