Re: “Let GCT's Honky Tonk Angels Sing for You

"The current trend of countrifying...". I kind of think that's my point. It's inauthentic boomer product. Borrowing songs isn't new. The Acuff-era Opry functioned like an Academy for a time, but country's been harvesting songs since A.P. Carter went roaming the hills and hollers looking for hand-me-down hits. But my point's more about the inclusion of a retooled "soft hit of the 70's" in the absence of other female artists in a jukebox format. Your last point's spot on though. They do sing the hell out of it and make it work.

Re: “El Pendejo

That list is, by and large, a document of legislative failure and autographs the judiciary didn't want. But put it under your pillow if it helps.

You are in that pic! There are so few production shots from that show, but many pictures of us in rehearsal practicing period-style bowing. Betty. Ruffin.

Re: “Rhodes President Condemns 'Hate-Filled Essay' Written by a Student

Well, that's all I need to know about another comment section squatter. Kroger flashmob reasoning: broad judgments about an ever-shifting student body can be derived from isolated experiences with a vaguely defined sample. Not flattering on anybody.

Re: “Rhodes President Condemns 'Hate-Filled Essay' Written by a Student

Painting whole communities with big brushes is a bad idea in pretty much every case Funk, and one case of it invites another. That's the only authority I'm appealing to. Rhodes has been a mighty white institution, and if you want to get in absent need and some really good grades/scores, it costs. But it's also where I was introduced to the ideas you'll find crystalized in my Q&A with Tami Sawyer last week and the Rhodes experience has produced some of the finest musicians, and most committed activists I've ever known. There are any number of ways to critique my alma mater, without resorting to unsupportable nonsense about how this guy-- not the kids working to get him out of there -- is the base line student, or that all the musicians who come out of there are despised, as is evidently not the case. And do you really have the data on the tipping claim? I'd love to see it. Dig your righteousness FUNK, not so much your profiling.
