Re: “It's NOT Easy Being Green in Memphis

I take the trolley to, and often from, work every day, from South Main to the Madison area. It's not unreliable enough to be useless, but yes, it is pretty bad. The problems with it are many, but there's a few things that could be done to improve the situation. 1. Fix the broken/messed up trolleys. Seriously, some of these things are flat-out scary to ride on. 2. Give them right of way. Make the red lights change when the trolley is going through. They can't keep to a schedule when they have to stop for traffic like everybody else. 3. Add at least 4 more trolleys, and get drivers that get a damn about people. 4. Get a dispatcher and make sure that the trolleys run on time. If they say there will be one every 11 minutes, then there must be one every 11 minutes. Seriously, I can walk 20 blocks, at a leisurely pace, and still beat the trolley to where I'm going. It's a catch-22. If the transit was reliable, then people would use it. But they don't take the effort to make it reliable because nobody really uses it.

Re: “Memphis Eccentrics

For somebody who "doesn't bother anyone", jackie Smith sure is awfully loud. Perhaps our intrepid Flyer reporters could actually visit the area for more than 15 random minutes, or speak to the people actually working at the Flyer who live on South Main, and get their side of the story. Who knows, it might be a different tale entirely.... As those of us who live or work in the South Main area well know, Jackie Smith is little more than a menace. Come on down to a Trolley Tour sometime, or anytime they have any event on near Main and G.E. Patterson. Then you'll see the truth about this crazy, crazy lady.
