Re: “The Vance Lauderdale Trivia Quiz — ANSWERS

The last owners of the Embers restaurants on Park Avenue and 5050 Poplar were Barney and Lucille Katzerman. Mr. Katzerman passed away first and Mrs. Katzerman many years later. I believe both had been closed by the time of her passing. I worked there in the 60's while I was attending Memphis State University/University of Memphis. I often think of Mrs. Katzerman and many of the other employees who worked at the Poplar Avenue location.

Re: “The Eads School Bus Crash of 1941

My uncle, Kenneth Murray Bryan, was one of the fatalities and my mother Mary Nell Bryan, was severely injured and still suffers from her injuries at age 88. She has vividly told the story of this fateful event to any who inquired most of her life. When my grandmother, Alva Lee Bryan, was told of the event, she was told that Kenneth had survived and that my mother had been killed. Kenneth was the baby in their family; my mother had a broken back and was scalped.

My mother told the story of hearing young Guy Anderson call out to Mr. Priddy, the bus driver to no avail. The rear escape door of the bus would not open according to my mother who recalls seeing and hearing students trying to open the rear door.
