Re: “Corraling Cats

I have volunteered with this group since 2009. They are, without a doubt, one of the most responsible animal welfare groups I have ever known. There are crews of cleaners weekdays and weekends to keep the environment clean for the cats' health and appealing for the potential customers. There is little odor. What I have also witnessed is a landlord that has nearly terrorized this fine group of people with threats of non-renewal and refusal to fix essential necessities such as air conditioning and plumbing. Last year I donated money to purchase a new unit as the landlord would not take responsibility and this year I bought two fans to cool the shelter while the A/C was out for over one week. The windows do not open so it was nearly unbearable yet the landlord did nothing for one week. One of the toilets overflows frequently because the plumbing has a major problem and he will not fix it. Good luck to the new tenants. Memphis has had a difficult history with animal welfare in recent years. This is an example of a functional animal charity that takes ethical care of its cats. I ask the readers to please pitch in and assist this group. They exist on donations and the good will of others. it is an all volunteer organization. A temporary shelter would bridge the gap between the old and new spaces since the landlord will not work with the charity. If you know of such a space, please contact them. Or make a donation. Or give of yourself in time or labor or supplies. We cannot fix the poor character of the landlord but we can overcome and make certain that Mewtopia thrives.
