Re: “Guns in Bars: Where's the Opposition?

You know, we should pass a law forbidding the sale of cocaine and heroin. Then, all the drug dealers will have to stop selling it!

Oh. Right. Making something illegal just criminalizes it, but doesn't prevent it.

Re: “Guns in Bars: Where's the Opposition?

Maybe I just prefer the extremes - but why not go whole hog and make it an open-carry state while we're at it? Then there's no question who is carrying in the bar. In addition, anyone who gets so inebriated that they attempt to use a firearm in an unsafe manner (sports dispute resolution, for instance) will likely be removed from the gene pool - trending toward a smarter populace. On the other hand, maybe we should strike this law down, and while we're at it, forbid anyone from having a firearm in their home while in the possession of alcohol - surely no one commenting here in opposition of this law has both guns and booze at home? Or do you simply think that the current law only applies to other people, because you know better than to drink around a loaded weapon?

One thing is certain - criminals don't care what the law forbids, but when citizens are given back their right to carry, it makes it a safer city for all.
