Re: “Game 10 Notebook: Celtics 116, Grizzlies 110

I find the banter between Chris H. and Craig to be most refreshing! Two adults with differing opinions that are measured with respect...UNBELIEVEABLE!!! If only we could get the posters on the "other" paper's blog to be as respectful. I also appreciate that Chris H. is willing to get involved as well provide an explanation for his comments.

Kudos to Chris Herrington...and the other posters too!

As a Grizz fan since day one, I take pride in my dedication to a team that for the better part of its existence has been the laughing stock of the NBA and on a broader level...professional sports. But my belief like my faith in God prevents me from giving up or giving in...knowing that one day very soon my team will sneak up on the league and the Memphis fans and be the team I always hoped and knew they could be. To further cement my point...I live in Phoenix,AZ and have been a long time Cardinals football fan...use to getting laughed at and teased profusely. The owner was Public Enemy #1 and the team had nice pieces, but was missing that one player...a difference maker. Before you know it the owner makes a 180 and begins to leave football decisions to football people, they bring in a winner in Kurt Warner and low an behold the Cardinals are contenders. If not for the heroics of the other team on the last play we win what NO ONE could've ever conceived in their wildest dreams...A superbowl.

I, like Chris H., believe that most fans ARE casual fans...they want to be associated with a winner. College fans want to tailgate, paint their faces and rub their teams success in the faces of the opposing team. Grizz fans want to be able to wear Rudy Gay or Zach Randolph jersey's with confidence knowing their support is not in some thinnly vailed vein because the jersey says "MEMPHIS" on it. Cardinals fans now sellout every home game, not just because the team wins more than they lose, but because they enjoy the events surrounding the game, ...the false sense of "COMMUNITY" garnered and the hour long debates about how bad they're gonna beat their opponent. But trust me...if the team continues losing and can't find a consistent QB, those SELLOUTS will be farther and few between. You see, we fans are the sellouts and we need to be truly honest with ourselves and admit that we, like most fans don't necessarily like a winner so much as we like being associated with one!

Again, thanks for keeping it classy...GO GRIZZ!

Re: “Making Sense of the Ronnie Brewer Decision

The only thing that would prevent Rudy from being a Grizz this coming season is if the Grizz "DO NOT" match offers extended to him. Until I see otherwise, I have to assume that Grizz mgmt will do as they say and..."match ALL offers". A lot of people in the national media are putting too much emphasis on teams "front loading" deals to snatch players. Most players want the money with longer terms, so if a team offers Rudy an overall deal at $50-60 million that is front loaded to pay him $20 million in the 1st season against a $60-70 million contract with an additional year, why would he take the lessor deal to go to a lessor team??? The smart player understands he'll still get the best deal by staying with his current team...pretty easy math, unless he has a chance to be on a contender. From an endorsement standpoint, if you've got the talent it won't matter if you play in Cleveland, New York, L.A. or Memphis......in our media driven society athletes and celebrities are already over-exposed. Please tell me you're not tired of hearing about where Miley Cyrus had coffee or LeBron "might" play next year???
The Grizz have made some bold and wise basketball decisions that will benefit them going forward. Yes, there are some question marks tied to letting Ronnie Brewer go, but the risk/ reward is far more favorable for the Grizz. Best case, he test the waters but still ends up in Memphis. Worse case, we don't get him back and potentially use what cap space we have to add a veteran to the roster...the draft pick offered to Utah protects the Grizz in case we end up with a lottery pick. Looking forward to more summer moves and the upcoming season...GO GRIZZ!!!

Re: “A Game for Basketball Fans

Love the comment..."when a loss felt like a win" Even though we lost that's exactly how I felt about the Grizz effort on the 2nd night of a back to back. They easily could've mailed it in and hit the showers early....................BUT THEY DIDN'T!!!

Fans will come around, just as this team is rounding out that corner to be a future playoff contender. Teams are no longer sleeping on the Grizzlies and for good reason.
Don't let them mess around and add a couple of key pieces...they could easily leap frog a lot of top tier teams and be a contender, just like that.....GREAT GAME!

Re: “Grizzlies 111, Cavaliers 109 Post-Game Three-Pointer

Hey Jordanweeb....I heard on TV last night that Tinsley had a minor back injury and was game to game. To have 3 pt guards (Conley, Tinsley and Williams) and 1 tweener (Mayo) is a luxury. Unless they all get into foul trouble, which shouldn't happen often if at all...they should be covered. Worse case...even Rudy or Young could bring the ball up if needed.

Re: “Larry Brown on Allen Iverson

L3E.....you make some great points and if what you say is true, then Allen owes Memphis fans, his teammates and his coach an apology. We all have stress and sometimes it manifest itself in anger. But the true sign of an adult and man is to come back and say you know what, I love my family and I felt it was more important to be with them...my bad to my teammates, the Memphis fans who support me and Coach for taking the heat.

A.I. I hope you can adjust so you can prolong your career, wished you could've done it in Memphis...good luck where ever you land. Don't let this be the way people remember you and your career!

Re: “Iverson Post-Mortem Begins

Nowhere is any of the above information a secret....except in the minds of those who have an alligence to Iverson and believe that whatever he does is okay! Maybe the coach should've kicked Iverson off the bus enroute to the airport. That would've made for an interesting Breaking story on ESPN.

He was a great talent that unfortunately has learned nothing about what he "truly" has to offer nor the type of redemption he could've obtained by being a team leader instead of noise maker!

When Allen goes to the Hall of Fame he'll always have a stigma attached and will be known as much for his attitude and selfishness as he was for his incredible talent.

God truly is shaking his head at how Iverson took what was given to him for granted and got so full of himself that he began to believe he was the Answer instead of God...it's too bad!

Re: “Iverson Out

"He will get to do what he thought he was going to do here, which is play 40 minutes as hard as he can and try to will his team to victory." - AK47

I'm not sure that Iverson's complaint was about not playing 40 minutes...at least I hope not because the Grizz training staff stated no more than 20 minutes for the week. He complained and will probably continue to complain about not starting. I can't see him starting on the Knicks either. I think a lot of teams who had "some" interest in him will use this fiasco as a bargaining chip to get him to conform to playing some form of "team hoops". I also don't think it will be successful. What's worse for Iverson is he'll have to deal with Knick fans and New Yorkers who have a far lower tolerance for player BS. We'll see how that one plays out if it actually happens.

BTW, if he doesn't make a team this year....he's done in the NBA! Teams will find it hard to believe anything he says unless somebody just wants a guy on the team that will jack up 20-25 shots a game.
