Re: “Tinker's Challenge

I've had the misfortune of talking to more than a few of these people ranting about the Armenian Genocide. And there's a question none of them can answer for me. It's not a difficult one, but they do anything they can to avoid it. The question is, let's pretend for a moment that the vote went the way you guys want. The US Government acknowledges the Armenian Genocide. What does that change? Answer: Not a damn thing. People that died NINETY YEARS AGO do not come back. The Turkish government does not start teaching the nation's children "We did something very bad almost a century ago". It changes NOTHING. And perhaps the most intellectually fraudulent argument is the Holocaust comparison--- With the Holocaust, there were people involved in the Holocaust that could stand trial for it that were, you know, ALIVE. What do the Armenian activists want? Should we dig up the bodies of the people that did this and walk them, Weekend At Bernie's style through a trial? Sorry, but if you are so hung up on an issue from ninety years that it takes precedence over issues in the here and now, you've got bigger problems than any government could hope to solve with a vote. Maybe white coats...
