Re: “Paper Trail

Nobody wants to freelance, but there are a couple of perks if you can get past the no benefits and dirty tricks the paper pulls. One is that writers are so well known by the community that it leads to other freelance offers from people who know your writing, so even if you go back to them as a freelancer you can get additional money from other companies. The other is you can turn down assignments and they can't force you to do all the assignments they force you to do now even if you hate them and you end up working far beyond your normal hours, you have to keep spare clothes and food in the trunk, your spouse is threatening divorce because you're never home... all that jazz that goes with depending totally on them. All of that leads to a good "scr U" attitude toward the bosses once you get settled in freelancing. Not saying you'll ever get over what they did to you, but it is possible to have a better life and the last laugh. And I'm one who had this happen to me, so, I know what the future can feel like once you get down the road a bit.
