Re: “Guns in Bars: Where's the Opposition?

I have a carry permit and I like to believe that I am reasonally responsible with it and my firearms. There were firearms being brought into bars and restaurants long before this bill was ever thought about. Firearms have been carried into bars and restaurants by both criminals and people with legal carry permits. I carry my firearms on me at all times for one reason. If I knew when a violent crime was going to involve me and my family, I would naturally avoid the situation. Since I have not been gifted with this foresight I carry my firearm on me because I do not know if and when me and my family may be the victims of some senseless violent act. I am not really worried about being attacked in a restaurant but rather when I leave that restaurant what might happen. If someone was to rob an establishment that I was in, so be it if all they want is my wallet and cash. My firearm will stay holstered but if I reasonably conclude that my life and the life of my family is endangered I will not hesitate to use my firearm on the assailant(s). Anyone else would have to fend for themselves because they are not my responsibility. This may sound cold and uncaring about other people but they have the same opportunity to arm themselves and made a choice not to do so.

I have a great deal of respect for our police force but the cold hard truth of the matter is that when a violent crime occurs the police arrive after it is over and can only take a report of what happened. I will not allow me or my family to be lifeless victims in a report when I have the means to avoid it. This bill will not affect me one way or another because I have carried my firearm concealed and responsibly and I will continue to do so. My firearm to me is like insurance, you hope to never have to use it but it is reassuring that you have it when you need it most.

How about focussing on stricter gun laws against the criminal scum that infests this once fair city. The criminals here aren't afraid to use guns in crimes because they know that they will not do any hard time or face any cosequences for their actions. The death penalty could be a real deterrent against gun crimes if it were to be used effectively. The Air Force Strategic Command motto is "Peace Through Deterence". Other countries do not openly engage us in war for fear of the consequences that it will bring. This same fear should be instilled into those with criminal intentions. The reverse is happening, it is they who keep us in fear of them by having to apply for carry permits and carry firearms.

To all those who do not like the idea of firearms being carried into any establishment that serves alchol, you have the right to not do so. If you make the choice to carry a firearm into those establihments, please do so responsibly. If you are going to have even one drink leave your firearm at home or in your vehicle. I agree that alcohol and guns do not make for a good mix, but everyone that goes into a bar or restaurant goes to drink.

Re: “A Gun Walks Into a Bar ...

I agree 100% with bob87789. People are already carrying guns into bars and restaurants. The majority of which are thugs and career criminals. I for one carry my firearm with me into restaurants. I am not so much worried about my safety inside the restaurant but more so when my family and I are leaving. If I had fore knowledge of when a violent crime was going to happen against me and my family I would not put us in harms way, but since I am not that gifted I carry my firearm so that I have the ability to protect me and my family against these unknown dangers. I have a great deal of respect for the police but the fact remains that when a violent crime occurs it is usually over before the police can arrive at the scene of the crime. Thus all they can do is to take a report of what happened. I choose not to have me and my family be reduced to just lifeless victims in a report. I choose to defend my family that God has seen fit to give to me.
