At this weekend's 8th Annual Delta River Cruisin' event at Sam's Town Casino, the hot rods and muscle cars on display will be of makes no later than 1979. The reason? Well, the logic is a bit fuzzy, admits Mike Lyon, president of Memphis Street Rods, the host

organization. It has to do with cars having to be at least 30 years old to be considered antique, the end of the muscle-car era in '72, the distinct change in the make of cars in '80, and the thinking among Memphis Street Rod members that '79 is as good a number as any. Another number to consider: 1,000. That's how many cars Lyon expects enthusiasts from all over the country will be showing off at this year's event, with some bringing seven and eight apiece. The darling of the show will be the 1932 Ford, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Another car to be on the look out for is the 1957 Ford, which is also marking a milestone. As for Lyon's pride and joy, he's got two he'll be bringing to the Delta River Cruisin': a 1938 Ford sedan and a 1966 Ford Fairlane convertible.
