Re: “Memphis to Receive Support for Fighting Violent Crime

Change the laws!

1. Mandatory execution for 1st degree murder. No appeals. Execution will be 1 year after being convicted. No more lethal injections. Firing squad or hanging. Money saved.

2. Make the living conditions and the food in the prisons horrible. Right now it's a resort to these criminals and they will tell you so. Compare our prisons to those in Mexico or Africa and it's a joke. When they are released they never want to come back.

3. Implement stop and frisk. Yes, start profiling.

4. Maximum sentence for major crimes. Carjacking, burglary, drive by shootings, armed robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault. No deals.

Re: “Council Members: Mayor 'Disrespected' Council on Beale Bucks

There are some real idiots on this council particularly Joe Brown and Jamita Swearengen. Every issue with them is about race and both continue to make monthly asinine comments during council meeting. The council should have left the Beale Street Bucks program as it was. Personally, I'd rather pay $10 and receive $8 in Beale Street Bucks than pay $5 and receive nothing. Basically, $8 > $5. Who didn't know this? Oh yeah, our council members. Thank goodness for term limits.

Re: “Wahlburgers Opening on Beale

Hopefully the old Club Handy will be next to get a real tenant and 380 Beale will be eventually torn down sooner than later for a hotel.

Re: “Memphis 3.0 Finds Challenges in Population Growth, Transportation

The main reason for the lack of growth is very obvious. Overall, Memphis is a very unattractive city due in part to crime, an unskilled workforce and a lack of vision. I've lived in 3 other cities and Memphis had the most potential out of all of them but has by far been the most disappointing. The crime here is unreal and until lawmakers change, strengthen and enforce the law it's going to get worse. I've been here 19 years now and have seen numerous friends leave due to the lack of progress, regression, apathy and the huge inferiority complex that permeates this region. These symptoms came from horrible leadership, the lack of development across the city and a downtown that still looks like 1983. The few developers that Memphis has attracted have been low level and just don't have the financial capability to complete projects. Why does it take forever to break ground on major projects? When will Belz start developing the corner of Union and McLean? Why are there still vacancies on the east end of Beale Street? What's the deal with all the hotels that are in the pipeline for downtown? How many years have the trolleys been idle? 100 N. Main and the Sterick Building are still vacant...really? Will Mud Island ever be redeveloped? How long have we been talking about One Beale? The Pinch District? The convention center? Also take into consideration the effect organizations such as Memphis Heritage and Friends for our Riverfront who protest any type of real development that improves or enhances the aesthetics of the city. Example, the proposed convention center hotel to be built currently where the Mud Island garage parking lot sits. What's the deal with fear of tall buildings on the riverfront?? There are numerous factors that have caused Memphis to be stagnant over the years. Until we develop a progressive mindset things will remain the same.

Re: “Memphis to Launch Bike Sharing System

This will be great for Memphis. Especially downtown and midtown. I've used bike share in New York City and D.C. I totally enjoyed the experience.

Re: “Beale Street Bucks Task Force Set to Work

Once again Joe Brown offers no solution only rhetoric. Beale Street Bucks have been working therefore continuing using them. Why are certain people in Memphis against being tougher on crime? Nobody wants to do what's necessary to deter criminal activity. There is always an excuse. That's why Memphis is one of the FBI most dangerous cities.

Re: “Working to Bring Confederate Statues Down.

The Union defeated the Confederacy. Remove the monuments and put them in a historical museum for the Confederacy. Somewhere in the South of course. End of story.
