Charlie Wolfe Forrest saved Gadsden , Al from burning during the war. There is a large statue of him & Emma Samson on a horse showing Forrest where to cross Black Creek in chase of the raiding Yankee calvery.It is on Broad St before you cross the Coosa River bridge. He caught the Yankees in Cedar Bluff,Al & they surrendered & were taken to Rome, Ga.He was greeted in Rome as a Hero for saving so many places from being burned by the Yankee invader.
