Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

JLiatris, I wondered how long it would take before the insults started flying, up until this point everyone has conducted themselves and their opinions in a professinal manner, how come you have to ruin the it ? As I've stated before this's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it, this's just a friendly discussion with an opportunity for all, including myself, to voice their opinion about this topic.

Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

PD, when I'm comparing food processing to the sport of cockfighting my point is only this, if cockfighting is made a felony there's still going to be millions of chickens slaughtered each year in the U.S. so no one is going to be saving any chickens anyway, it's not as if cockfighting is the only cause of chickens dying, the only thing this purposed law is going to do is put people in prisons (that are already overcrowded) and take away their freedom and rights as citizens. The American tax payer including both you and I are the one's who are going to pay for the daily necessities of those who will be incarcerated including their medical, dental, lodging, food, etc. To me this is an unnecessary expense that tax payers shouldn't have to endure because the end result will be the same, the fights will still go on and millions of chickens will still die each year in the food processing industry, so as I mentioned before, why all the outrage over chickens dying ? If cockfighting was the only way that chickens were killed and making those humans who participate in this sport felons would save all chickens then maybe I could understand your position but since it's not, why make it such a huge issue ? The only result you will get with this purposed law, is making for the most part (notice I said for the most part, there's always a few bad apples in every bunch) good, hard working, tax paying citizens, felons. You're not going to save that many more chicken's lives to make a difference, especially with the millions that are going to die each year whether this law passes or not, so think about that and see if your position is not just as weak to me, as mine is to you.

Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

You're correct PD, I'm definitely no vegetarian, nor am I against killing chickens whether it's for sport or food and if my point of view is so weak then please explain to me how one form of killing a chicken is any different from another form. A dead chicken is a dead chicken no matter how you slice it up, am I right or wrong ?

Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

I'm not here trying to argue with anyone, I'm just trying to give my opinion there's two sides to every story, if you don't agree with what I say that's fine but don't be so close minded that I can't voice my opinion. I don't agree with what your advocating for either but I'm not out here trying to make you change your lifestyle or make you a felon because I don't agree with the things you enjoy. We are suppose to be able to seek life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Gamefowl naturally want to fight, there's no way you can teach a bird with a brain less than a size of a peanut to fight, it just comes naturally like the instict for animals to mate, so no gamecock is forced to fight, it can quit or not fight at all, but they enjoy fighting. For the other comments about animal fighting, I was just explaining the difference between a dog and a chicken and why I don't care for dog fighting and like I said before since I don't care for dog fighting I just simply as advised others before don't attend. There's alot of things in this world that I don't agree with but just because I don't agree with it doesn't mean that it should be outlawed or taken away from someone else because I don't agree with it. I don't agree with abortion it's a far more grave and barbaric practice than chicken fighting and by far more children are killed each year than chickens in a cockfight so why aren't people advocating for these physicians to be made felons. I personally believe human life is much more valuable than animals. Animals were put here for human use not the other way around. By the way I might have looked over it but I didn't read any comments about the daily slaughter of chickens and other animals that are killed for human consumption in food processing plants for restaurants and grocery stores or anyone who thinks it's a good idea to make the people who participate in this practice felons. Killing a chicken for sport or human consumption contrary to what you may believe results the same way, the death of a chicken.

Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

Midtown, I like cockfighting just as several of our U.S. Presidents such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln who fought chickens on the White House lawn but if you or others do not enjoy this great sport then the answer is simple, just don't attend. I don't care for horse racing but I'm not out here advocating for all those who do enjoy the sport to be made felons. I just simply do not attend. Millions of animals are slaughtered daily here in America for food alot more than are killed at a cockfight but I don't here anyone trying to make the owners of these restaurants and food processsing facilities such as KFC, Popeyes, and Bojangles felons. A chicken is livestock such as cattle and swine and we care for our livestock the same as other farmers so why should we be told by the government how we can kill or what we can do with our property (livestock). There's a big difference between dog fighting and cockfighting, dogs are man's best friend and the family pet so I understand the outrage against dog fighting but chickens are livestock not the family pet.

Re: “Pending Bill Would Make Cockfighting a Felony in Tennessee

Cockfighting should remain a misdemeanor, making cockfighters and gamefowl breeders felons is ridiculous and for illegal immigrants check your big farms and construction sites and see if you don't find some. As for illegal drugs that are so often mentioned as being at cockfights check out a rock & roll concert and see if you don't find some and for gambling check out your work place and see if you don't find some betting on ball games and Nascar. All of these things I've mentioned are illegal but I don't hear anyone trying to make farmers, or those who attend music concerts, or owners of businesses felons. Cockfighting is illegal and the penalties for getting caught are severe enough. This legislation would make it a crime that carries a more severe penalty to fight two roosters than to assault a law enforcement officer, now tell this is justice.
