Let's assume the mayor does not get indicted, his actions appear, at the least, to be unethical. My view is that to use the power of the office for personal gain, directly, since inevitably there will be some spill-over, should be severed. The council should not, or the citizens of Memphis shouldn't, stand for an elected official who wastes their time and resources filling his/her pockets while an official entrusted with the assets of this city. It should be promulgated that to enter the office of mayor of Memphis, there will be no business dealings with the assets of the city including anti-circumvent language. I have to wonder, what if this person was not self-indulgent, but committed only to a fair and open environment for the city and its' citizens to prosper; where would we be now, as a city?
