Re: “The Tucson Shootings: The Blame Game

I had hoped that the more fascist elements in American politics would dial it back after cries for Obama's death during the general election. To the contrary, things are heating up and a mix of Sarah Palin, Arizona and the "Tea Party" is a witch's brew of xenophobia and intolerance that was certain to bode ill.

I'm surprised it was this bad, but no matter how much this young killer insists he wasn't influenced by particular people or groups, the vitriolic rhetoric spewed by Palin and her ilk contributed to creating the melieu in which such a horrific plan could be born, incubated and nursed.

Re: “One Call?

I live in Bartlett. I live here for a couple of reasons and race is not one of them. I live here to have decent city services. If someone here calls the police the police are there immediately.

My kids are grown now, but the county school system is head and shoulders above the city.

My cousin was murdered in Memphis 2 years ago. As it happens though my family, including my aging mother live here, so we just muddle through as best we can.

I would be happy to opt in and help pay for a consolidated 911 system. This current mess is what got former Mayor Chandler killed. He had a heart attack and no one could decide on jurisdiction.

As far as "classism" the big money house are actually in Memphis.

Racism? What do you do when your mayor resigns and runs for Congress promising to bring more "black jobs" to Memphis or when former Congressman Ford, Sr. refers to whites in East Memphis as "devils" just because they had DeBerry signs in their yard.

I simply live in a town that acts in the interest of ALL of its citizens.
