Re: “Possible Greenline Disruption?

What the hell? Of all the streets in Memphis that need work, why Holmes. That street is never busy.

Re: “Tree Line

There is a majestic White Oak at Davies Plantation. It's my most favorite tree of all time.

Re: “Memphis' Heritage

I hate to belabor the point but I think the previously proposed plans for OS, to which I've posted a link, are already somewhat pedestrian friendly. I would love to see drawings that MH would approve of, that would also be attractive to businesses that have a reasonable chance of survival in midtown.

And let's not kid ourselves. When this all went down last year, MH was mostly concerned with saving the old buildings in OS -not with what would replace them. That's how I remember it, and I followed the drama closely.

Re: “Memphis' Heritage

I hope I am wrong and CY never dies out. My point is that *if it does* I hope Memphians do not choose stagnation and dilapidation over progress and growth, even if the progress is not ideal.

Re: “Memphis' Heritage

M_Awesomesauce: Don't you think that if I had been referring to individual establishments, I would have wrote "name a single RESTAURANT with 30+ years of sustained growth and success anywhere, ever, in the history of Memphis?" (emphasis mine)

I didn't state it that way for a reason, although I understand you had no way of knowing that I'm a life-long Memphian and am obviously aware that Memphis has many very old and very good restaurants.

I didn't change the rules or redefine anything. Even if I did (and I didn't) it's beside the point.

OS is a big useless hole in the center of the city. I don't like it, and thanks to MH, it's going to be there for a long time.

Re: “Memphis' Heritage

Memphis Heritage and its 400 members are a small number compared to all the people that shop at Piggly Wiggly on Madison and Kroger on Poplar. So I don't think it's accurate to say that mid-towners do not want another discount grocery store. If the OS development had gone forward, who knows, maybe Piggly Wiggly would have been put out of business. Maybe the Pig would have set vacant for 5 or 10 years. Then that property would have been redeveloped into something nicer, putting another store out of business, ad infinitum. It's progress vs. stagnation.

I want a Trader Joes too! But I am not a market analyst working for a big retail company that has studied midtown Memphis and knows what it can and can not support. 38103 and I would love a Trader Joe's. The problem is that there are not enough of us and those who invest millions of dollars into shopping centers know it.
