Re: “WREG to Be Acquired by Conservative Sinclair Broadcast Group

Suggesting that TV news is irrelevant is wrong-headed. So, WHERE are you going to get your news? Only from the newspapers? Only from the internet? From your neighbor? WHERE then? Newspapers have left/right leanings. Websites have left/right leanings. The answer isn't to throw the baby out with the bathwater. The answer is to be a more intelligent digester of news. Understand what you're watching! Check stories and see if a seemingly "huge" story is being talked about in other reputable news sources. For instance, let's say you read a story about how some research doctor in New Guinea has found a cure for pancreatic cancer. That is unquestionably a big story. That's HUGE! Check it out. Is there any discussion of this on a JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) website? Is it being talked about on the Mayo Clinic website? Is ANY other reputable news source discussing this? Just who IS this doctor? Does he have a history of fraudulent "cures"? Is he really nothing more than the Doctor Oz of cancer?

Trump supporters like to complain about the mainstream media yet will have their TV tuned to FoxNews all day, seemingly excluding a huge news network, like FoxNews, from the moniker of "mainstream media". FoxNews always brags about having the highest viewership. Bill O'Reilly used to incessantly brag about being the highest rated cable program for, like, 16 years straight. So, who is REALLY the mainstream media here? FoxNews will constantly denigrate the "mainstream media" as if THEY are not a member of that group.

What it comes down to is this: Trump supporters simply don't like how the president is being criticized and portrayed by just about EVERY network OTHER than FoxNews. That's why they won't change the channel. They never pause to wonder why NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post and countless other networks and news sources are out of synch with Fox & Friends.

We are seldom aware that we are living history while it's happening. History only seems like something that happened a long time ago. In the future, THIS will be history and people will then know WHO was on the right side of history. Trump will be a blackmark on the U.S. presidency. He'll be an anomaly. His followers, supporters and apologists will be characterized as an irrationally angry group of Americans who wanted to throw a rock through the window of government just so they could say, "Can you hear us NOW?" To them, burning down the house represented "change".

Because news agencies now fall into political/ideological niches, one has to be a more intelligent digester of the news. It starts with understanding WHAT you're watching. You cannot get all your news from ONE source. You have to switch around. I suggest you switch around WHILE breaking news is happening. I am continually switching between CNN, FoxNews and MSNBC. It's fascinating how differently they approach a topic. For instance, when the news broke that former (fired) National Security Adviser Michael Flynn only agreed to testify if he was granted immunity (unquestionably, a big story), if you were watching FoxNews at the time, you wouldn't even know that that story had broke. CNN and MSNBC were all over it. Yet, on FoxNews ... not a peep? Why? Is it because FoxNews didn't know about the event. No! It takes time to figure out how you're going to spin this into not-a-bad-thing. And, of course, that's EXACTLY how they spun it. To the Trump supporters: Are you sick of winning, yet?
