Fight Night

Jaleel Willis has never lost a fight, at least not professionally.

The Memphis native and mixed martial artist for V3Fights is currently undefeated (8-0), but on Saturday, September 28th, he'll face his biggest match yet as he attempts to hold onto his lightweight championship title against Bald Knob, Arkansas, native Eli McGlothlin at the V3Fights event at Minglewood Hall.

McGlothlin, the son of well-known Arkansas martial artist Willie McGlothlin, got his start in mixed martial arts (a sport that combines grappling, boxing, and other contact sports) at a young age when his dad would show him moves. McGlothlin is currently 11-3, but he's been on a four-win streak.

"Eli is so well-rounded that he thinks his MMA skills are going to somehow outweigh my wrestling skills," says Willis, who got his start as an award-winning wrestler for White Station High School. "I know a lot of people think I'm one-dimensional [because I'm a wrestler], so I'll let them continue to believe that and I'll come out with a couple surprises."

Additionally, Saturday's V3Fights bout will feature 11 other fights, including a heavyweight match between Jason Ostrowski and Jeremiah Trundle and a featherweight fight between Jesse Sanderson and Matt Robinson. Women's bantamweight champion Jamie "Lilcannon" Milanowski will also be defending her title on this card against Lynzee Johnson.

Fights take place in an octagonal ring, and they're broadcast throughout the venue in HD.

"We try to make it a professional atmosphere from\ the music to the big-screen TVs and having it in HD," says Rod Galvan, director of public relations for V3Fights. "We try to make it a great experience for everyone and more than just a fight. We want it to be a cool thing to do on a Saturday night."

V3Fights: Willis Vs. McGlothlin at Minglewood Hall, Saturday, September 28th, 6 p.m., $25-$45 (
