Fly on the Wall 1520

Dammit, Gannett

Many people ask, "Hey, Pesky, do you ever tire of pointing out enormous double-typos like 'Young family takes leaf pf faith' on the front page of a section?"

Okay, that's not true. Nobody asks that.

People send pictures and suggest mean punchlines. But if somebody did ask, I'd say the monologue jokes aren't as much fun to write as they used to be. And I'd remind that person we're not alone.

Gannett's not the only company out there trying to make a buck, and our suffering isn't unique. On April 6th, ESPN dinged The Denver Post for a story titled "The Ultimate Visitors Guide to Coors Field" that was illustrated with an enormous photograph of Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

On April 7th, The New York Times published a story describing The Post as being in "open revolt" against its owner, a New York-based hedge fund owner.

"News matters," The Post published in an angry editorial, acknowledging problems and nipping the hand that feeds it. "Colo. should demand the newspaper it deserves," the editorial continued.

Memphis, too.
