Fly on the Wall

Futurama 5

Technology has changed the way we consume media, making big events like last week's election convenient for early adapters and confusing for everybody else. Should we follow the results on Facebook? Twitter? Skype? Should we just watch television like the caveman did? Or is Channel 5 pioneering technology that makes web content available to people who don't have technological resources?

The Tweet was probably aimed at smart-phone users, but it's more fun to imagine people on their porches, extending an index finger to trace the URL in the sky.

Fat, Ugly, Larcenous

What is it about Memphis that's knotted the collective panties of magazine and Internet list makers? Anyone basing an opinion on these lists must think that Memphis — an international destination with more name recognition than most American cities — is a place populated by criminals too stupid to steal and too fat to run away. And now Travel & Leisure magazine says Memphians are America's ugliest people. Apparently Travel & Leisure's mama didn't teach it any manners.

Shooting Saggy

Kenneth Bonds, the man accused of shooting a Memphis teenager for wearing saggy pants, is claiming that he acted out of self-defense. Bonds says he was threatened after telling a pair of teenagers to pull up their pants. Regardless, the lesson is apparent: Keep your nose out of other people's crack.

Gateway to Terror

UrbanArt is soliciting artists to design public sculptures along Plough Boulevard between Winchester and Democrat roads. The sculptures will create a gateway for travelers flying into Memphis and should in some way represent the city. Perhaps a very fat, out-of-breath mugger with a scar?
