Fly on the Wall

Mongo's Planet Robert Hodges (aka Prince Mongo), the irascible alien from planet Zambodia, continues to infuriate residents of Wilbur-by-the-Sea, Florida, where he spends his alien winters in a wildly painted beach house decorated with extreme yard art. That is, until Volusia County sent earth-moving equipment to the property to remove mountains of sand, hocky sticks, skis, and a large plastic Santa. In typical Mongo fashion, a counterattack is in the works. "I'm going to donate my house to ex-convicts," Mongo told the Daytona Beach News Journal, claiming he's already taken out classified advertisements and is currently interviewing felons in Miami. "The requirement is that they have to have a heinous crime on their record. I can't just put anyone in that house."

But Mongo didn't stop there. He laid a plan to house not only ex-convicts but also the convicts' extended families. If necessary, he's prepared to rent a tent large enough to accommodate 200 people to manage overflow.

Blues Harping From The Wall Street Journal's review of Got to Get Back, the latest release by Memphis' stone soul super-band, the Bo-Keys:"[On] Got to Get Back, the band glazes its already authentic groove with earthy cameos by legendary Memphis singers Otis Clay, William Bell, and Percy Wiggins, and blues-harp player Charlie Musselwhite, who also plays blues harp."

Slow News Day

Sometimes life imitates The Onion. Last week, WMC-TV reported on an end-of-school project by Haley Dunwoody, a rising fourth-grader at Berclair Elementary School. When asked to write about her personal hero, Dunwoody named Lester Matteson, the 93-year-old man from Shoreline, Washington, who used his dentures to free himself after robbers taped him to a chair.
