Face Time
And now the news from Arkansas: Chelsea Harris, described by a variety of media sources as "a very large woman," spent a night in jail after she allegedly sat on her landlord's face, causing him some discomfort and inspiring headlines like "Arkansas Woman Sits on Landlord's Face." While arguing over back rent, Harris allegedly assaulted her landlord. The face-sitting supposedly happened when the landlord called for help. Harris' father told one reporter that she may have learned her full-figured fighting techniques at the federal prison where she works. The victim was quoted as saying, "Mmmmf, mmmf, mmmelp!"
Us vs. Them
Last week, Fly on the Wall shared the story of Alex Jones, a conservative talk radio host from Texas who thinks America is failing because the ruling elite puts its faith in the crystal skull that once resided at the top of Memphis' Pyramid. This week, an Australian newspaper, The Newcastle Herald, recounted Jones' skull rant in an article titled "Why Aren't Our Crazies As Crazy?" The big takeaway: "Decisions on water quality, low-cost housing, energy efficiency, climate change, and even roundabouts are being resisted in Tennessee, California, and Arizona. Meanwhile, Texas ... Alex Jones is busy exposing a pyramid-shaped sports venue owned by the city of Memphis."
Memphis Lives!
So much for having our name in lights shining down over the Great White Way. Memphis, the Broadway hit that won the 2010 Tony Award for best musical, is ending its run at the Shubert Theater on August 5th after 1,166 performances. But a production is being planned for London's West End, and the national tour returns to the Orpheum in April 2013.
