Fly on the Wall

Tony Allen tweets, mop sinks, and cruel punishment

Tony Tweets
Time has included Memphis Grizzlies guard Tony Allen on the magazine's list of 140 best Twitter feeds for 2013. According to Time, Allen was included because of his "delightfully strange comments and out-of-left-field life advice." And also, judging by the excerpted tweet Time included in its coverage, because of his astute criticism of American television: "Yo this Duck Dynasty show is hilarious."

Sink Hit
This week, Tennessee senator Bill Ketron of Murfreesboro admitted that some conservative legislators needed a little extra reassurance that a newly installed mop sink at the state capitol building was indeed a mop sink and not, you know, a secret ritual basin for Muslims to wash their feet in. Some Tennesseans are miffed that elected officials are worried about a sink, and nobody's talking about that freaky minaret on top of the capitol?

Hmmmmmm?

Cruel, Inhuman, etc.
I think we can all agree there are few crimes more despicable than teenage sex trafficking. But I think we can also agree that, if there's any truth in this prepositional-phrase-laden headline from the Chattanooga Times Free Press, there are few punishments more cruel than this poor bastard's: "Man gets decade in Memphis for trafficking teen girls for sex." Death would be more humane. Let's all hope that the article's contradictory lead sentence was correct and a federal judge in Memphis sentenced a man to 10 years "in prison."
