Fly on the Wall

KKK grammar, Jerry Lawler's museum, and Stacey Campfield's craziness

KKKliche
Why can't racists spell? Approximately 60 members of the Ku Klux Klan marched downtown Saturday, led by a woman carrying a sign that read, "If your white and proud, join the crowd."

Neverending Lawler
Memphis-based wrestler, actor, artist, Monday Night Raw host, and sometimes politician Jerry "The King" Lawler opened a museum last week at Wynn Automobile on Getwell. The WREG website quoted Lawler as saying, "This is just the spot where some people can come and relieve some of the memories." We're pretty sure that's a typo, and Lawler actually said "relive." But we're talking wrestling here, and people will hold a grudge.

Checkered Flag
Obituary of the week: "Timothy Wayne 'Tim' Hopkins, 54, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Dale Earnhardt to contribute his building and painting expertise to the constructing of many heavenly mansions on Saturday, March 23, 2013, in Memphis."

Neverending Campfield
Tennessee senator Stacey Campfield explained the rationale behind a bill to reduce a family's welfare benefits by 30 percent if one of their children fails a grade in school. "It's really just something to try to get parents involved with their kids," he said. Poor Stacey. His parents never said those three little words a child longs to hear: "Hit the street." Or those additional words, "Come back when you've got money."

The Biggest Loser?
This weekend, the streets of Uptown were littered with hundreds of lottery tickets. It looked like despair.
