Fly on the Wall

We're Fat

Men's Health has determined that Memphis is still America's fattest city. The author of an article in the magazine seemed to savor our condition as he compared the Bluff City to a pastry from Portland: "Perhaps even more delicious than Portland's most notoriously fattening snack — the Memphis Mafia fritter — is the fact that it's named for this year's Fattest City. Nearly three-quarters of [Memphis'] adult population is either overweight or obese."

The Memphis Mafia fritter is a gargantuan heap of fried, glazed dough topped with banana chunks and drizzled in chocolate frosting and peanut butter with a sprinkle of peanuts and chocolate chips. In other words, a light snack.

Hot Spots

Memphis is one of the hottest spots on the new STD Heat Map, an infographic created by bestmedicaldegrees.com using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The herpes sore-dotted map shows one metropolitan area standing head-and-nether-parts over the rest of the country when it comes to chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.

Neverending WTF

Celebrity gossip site Radar Online quoted an unnamed source suggesting that Britney Spears may be planning a very Elvis wedding. Verbatim: "Britney wants to get as much attention and money for pictures with her third wedding as she did for her second, which is why she is considering reaching out to Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, to ask if she can be married in the Graceland Estate in Memphis, Tennessee."
