Lots of art openings tonight. They are at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects for work by Bill Beatty, Bill Nixon, and the gruff but loveable Bob Browne; Midtown Artist Market Gallery for work by Mary Louise Subits; Durden Galler for work by Delores Justus; D Edge Art & Unique Treasure for photography by Klay Areaux;, and Studio 1688 for a closing reception for work by Eric Cooley and Neil Stavely. Also, it s day one of the two-day Kress Symposium at Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, during which authors and scholars will discuss Old Masters in Context: Romanino s The Mystic Marriage of Saint CatherineLove Letters by A.R. Gurney opens at 8 p.m., followed by I d Rather Be SinningRoberta Flack and The Gamble Brothers. Tonight s Jeffrey Gaines Low Dough Show (The Boston Globe calls Gaines one of pop s finest singers) is on the Peabody Rooftop and is sponsored by 107.5 The Pig as part of its World Class Concert Series. Pronto Pup Alert: The Mid-South Fair starts today. The Distraxshuns are at Patrick s tonight and tomorrow night. There s Brazil in the air at Automatic Slim s tonight with Layover in Rio with the Jet Set DJs. And, as always, The Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
