Lots of art openings tonight. They are at: UniversalArt Gallery for work by Danita Beck; Studio 1688 for work by various artists; Joysmith Gallery & Studio for work by Desmond McFarlane; Delta Axis Power House for work by Terri Jones; Perry Nicole Fine Art for work by four artists; Memphis Botanic Garden for opening night of this weekend s Memphis Potters Guild Spring Show and Sale; and last but certainly not least, at Midtown Artist Market Gallery for Roadkill Illuminance, really great work in the way of bullet-riddled old road signs with photography backlit behind the holes by Gary Bridgman. Tonight s Orpheum Classic Movie Series feature is The Wizard of Oz. Tonight s Harbor Town 5K Run/Walk is a fund-raiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis and is followed by a post-race street party in Harbor Town with live music and street vendors. Today kicks off the 15th annual Memphis Italian Festival in Marquette Park, with Italian food, music, games, and other activities. Today also kicks off this weekend s 10th annual Ducks Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival at Agricenter International, with all manner of outdoor sports and fun. There s a Smooth Summer Sizzler Concert at The Peabody tonight with Dave Koz, Jeffrey Osborne, Jonathan Butler, and Wayman Tisdale. At the Hi-Tone tonight there s a Mouserocket CD-Release Party with The Break-Ups and DJs Lacey and Krissy. And as always, The Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
