Re: “Alyssa Moore: Survivor

It's terrible what happened to this woman. I pray for her complete recovery. Unfortunately, this article validates the dangerous call-out campaigns that have become so common on social media. It should be made abundantly clear that this tactic is not recommended by the Family Safety Center, the Exchange Club, or any legitimate institution or individual dedicated to the safety of domestic violence victims.

Re: “Fiery Suicide Galvanizes Midtown Music Community

I'm a little confused, both by the article and a few of the comments.

I would like to know: was there a DV charge, was he on probation, was there an active order of protection (very different from a restraining order), and did Ms. Moore personally call the police when she was threatened by Jared two days before the incident?

If the answer to all of the questions above is "yes", then the DA should be engaged and a lawsuit should follow. If Jared had a DV charge and there was an active order of protection, any violation of that order, if reported by the victim, should have lead to a swift arrest. Considering the intense amount of public debate surrounding this incident, the answers to these questions are not trivial.

I hope that the Memphis Flyer takes the opportunity to investigate the immediate systemic and social failures that lead to this. That is the job of the press. Pontificating about the role of a federal policy in the 80s, while not irrelevant, is highly tangential.
