Heavy Metal

Okay, so they aren't using any music by Sabbath or Pantera, but Memphis' contemporary dance collective Project:Motion is back on the boards with a multimedia dance collage devoted to all things metal. Inspired by time spent at the National Ornamental Metal Museum, the choreographers for Metallurgy: The Properties of Dance have used movement to explore the ideas of alchemy, strength, desire, forging, mining, blasting and -- in whimsical honor of the Metal Museum's annual repair days -- bent spoons.

"We're finding connections between ideas and images," says Emily Hefley, Metallurgy's production manager. "In my piece, I'm trying to show strength, so I'm like a superhero."

No matter what's cranking from the stereo, that's pretty metal.

Metallurgy, 8 p.m., April 28th-29th and May 4th-6th; 2 p.m., April 30th and May 7th, at TheatreWorks, $15
