Realtors urge Memphians to shoot their city.

Memphis realtors are looking for citizens' favorite parts of the city, whether it's the Blues, barbecue, or Raiford's. The only catch is, they want it on video.

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors is sponsoring the "Your Memphis: Take One" contest. Contestants can submit three-minute films online about anything from a night on the town to a tour of their neighborhood.

"We didn't give the contest a lot of parameters because Memphis means something different to each of us," said Scott Sherrin, a spokesperson for the association. "For example, I live in Cooper-Young, and that's the thing I love about Memphis. It's very eclectic, and I can walk my dogs there."

There is one content requirement: Participants must include the phrase "My Memphis," either spoken or written, somewhere in the video.

"In the news, there's been a lot of negativity about real estate and about Memphis crime. We wanted to give people a way to show all the great things about their city instead of focusing on negative things," Sherrin said.

Since the Memphis Area Association of Realtors serves outlying counties as well as Memphis, participants don't have to live within the city limits. "Your Memphis: Take One" is open to residents of Fayette, Tipton, Hardin, Hardeman, and McNairy counties in Tennessee, as well as DeSoto and Marshall counties in Mississippi and Crittenden County in Arkansas.

"People who live in Germantown or even Fayette county may say they live in Memphis, even if they don't live in the city proper," Sherrin said.

The grand-prize winner, chosen by members of the association, will receive $10,000. A second-place winner will receive $5,000, and third place gets $1,000.

The competition is wide-open. Sherrin said no entries have been submitted yet, though the contest began October 1st. It will continue through November 24th. Contest rules are available at yourmemphistakeone.com.
