Horse Play

Earlier this year, Dark Horse Rescue in Hernando, Mississippi, adopted five horses from Memphis Animal Services after a shelter volunteer told the rescue group that the horses weren't getting enough attention.

Dark Horse has since found homes for two of the horses. The other three are available for adoption, and the public will have a chance to meet those horses, as well as the other nine in the care of Dark Horse Rescue, at their "Meet the Horses" event on Saturday, November 12th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"All the horses are friendly, and people can pet them and spend time with them," Christy Gross, founder of Dark Horse Rescue, said. "You can start the adoption process at the event, but we must inspect your home first."

This sort of public event is rare for Dark Horse Rescue. Typically, the rescue is closed to the general public, and potential adopters must submit an application to be approved for a visit. The rescue group doesn't publish its address for security reasons, so those wishing to attend will receive directions upon registration.

Besides offering quality time with horses, the event also features a cookout with hamburgers and hot dogs, a craft sale, live music, and door prizes.

Meet the Horses, Saturday, November 12th, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dark Horse Rescue, Hernando, Mississippi. Contact info@darkhorserescue.org or 662-469-9139 to register and get directions.
