Re: “"There Is No Line": The Troubled State of Our Immigrant Community

I'm not voicing an opinion on immigration - I can see both sides. If this were a debate class, I could argue for or against either side...using logic and facts.

With that said - I have a problem with the wording in the statement from the article:

"The most recent data from the DHS Office of Immigration Statistics shows that in 2016, 20,455 individuals were granted asylum. Congress, in conjunction with the president, sets the number of refugee admissions allowed each year. In 2018, President Donald Trump's administration set the number at 45,000 the lowest it's been since the program began in 1980."

Since the # granted asylum in 2016 is 20,455, then Trump's 2018 'lowest number allowed ever' of 45,000 doesn't seem to really matter, does it?

I'm not a 'Trump Thumper' or a 'Trump Basher'. I'm just very amused by both sides - the 'thumpers' seem to think every thing he does is the best thing since sliced bread & he does it better than anyone before him, and the 'bashers' feel some need to exaggerate everything to put the worst possible spin on it.

Re: “The Perilous Fight Over Colin Kaepernick

I personally think Kaepernick is being extremely disrespectful to our flag and anthem by kneeling. I also will defend - to my death - his RIGHT to do so.

Re: “Guns Across the Border

@ JacksonBaker - I really don't think the (potential) criminal will care about gun laws while he's debating to rob a bank. Hell, he might realize some of the customers will be armed (if he thinks about that at all).

@ oldtimeplayer - exactly where has it been proven that potentially armed victims do not reduce crime? And who actually cares? The 'armed' potential victim, that's who. You are correct about the potential harm to police tho. That's a VERY legitimate concern. There is also the concern that if the police MUST assume you could be armed, they will react accordingly (and VERY appropriately , with the 'armed assumption', I might add). As far as the 'white policeman' being scared...what about the black dealing with armed rednecks (I'm from MS, I'm allowed that description...)? See...your argument works both ways. ALL police will be more likely to shoot you. The only added benefit is the 'gene-pool' reduction of stupid people (of all races) who refuse to 'show your hands' to the police upon request (or demand...same results).
