It’s a Gas

Each year Memphis Cars Italia puts on its annual Worldwide Exotic Italian Car Show on Father's Day. The reason for the timing is simple enough, and it comes from Dan Hope, who does publicity for the event: "Dads like exotic cars."

The show, a fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis, is now in its ninth year, and the 50 to 60 cars on display will be sure to get Dad's heart racing. Among the cars — some worth as much as $300,000 — will be a Panamera, the latest Porsche sedan; rare '70s vintage Dino, Daytona, and 275 Ferraris; a 1990s Lamborghini Diablo; a Ferrari S430 with a V8 engine capable of reaching 200 mph; and, last but not least, a Ferrari 328 and 308, aka the Magnum P.I. car.

Kids won't feel left out, either. Games include "Red Light, Green Light" and a construction-themed relay race. There will be a car and driver photo booth and Hot Wheels racetracks for some zoom-zooming.

In addition, there will be "race car" beds for sale for $300. The beds come courtesy of the event's new title sponsor, Hilton Worldwide. Last week, Hilton employees decorated the beds as cars and then raced them. The beds will include the mattress, box springs, and sheets. One thing that's not clear, though: Do the beds come in Dad-size?

9th Annual Hilton Worldwide Exotic Italian Car Show, Sunday, June 20th, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Hilton Worldwide, 755 Crossover Lane at the corner of Spottswood and South Perkins. $10
