Re: “Crossing Party Lines

Ms. White: We have spoken now, as you know. As for interviewing you earlier, the basic question I might have asked would have been: Is that you in this picture? The story was essentially in the reaction of your fellow Democrats, and that really spoke for itself, as did your employment of freedom of action. Space restrictions also applied. However, I appreciated our conversation, as well as this elaboration from you in print.

Mr. Trout: What you're pinpointting, I think, is not a "backroom deal," but a front room deal. And politics, I'm afraid, is chockfull of both kinds of deals. In fact, deal-making, if not the essence of politics, is essential to its mechanism.

Re: “Commercial Appeal Editor To Staff: "Work From a Coffee Shop."

I remember Dale Enoch very well -- a worthy rep of the CA and a fully competitive reporter during the time I worked for the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock and even a star of the Gridiron Show. The "Commercial," as legitimate Memphis oldies called it, had genuine reach over there.

Re: “Baby Driver

Mainly, I'm just making sure I've got our new log-in process for comments down, but, as is so often the case, I find your reviews to be the go-to ones on just about every movie that comes down the pike. Where else can a reader get this kind of background? You da man.

Re: “Karl Dean in Memphis Next Week

As stated, prominently in the second paragraph, LWC. But, upon further inspection, I can see why you added your note. My original language was not as precise as it is now (or as I remembered writing). I added a word or two, for (ahem) clarity's sake.
