Re: “Warriors 125, Grizzlies 104: Next Day Notes, Game 82 Edition

I like Joerger, and he has definitely proven that he is at least an above average NBA coach down the stretch this season and I would like to see what he can do managing a transition that seems to already be underway now. That said, any coach in the NBA not named Pop, Kerr, or maybe Doc is replaceable. This is a player's league and talent is the coin of the realm.

If Dave wants the Minnesota job and the Wolves are willing to deal this time, they certainly have the assets to make one happen. If they are willing to part with enough talent or picks, the Grizzlies should take the deal and move on. Like I said, coaches come and go in this league, even good ones. The Grizzlies need young talent and that is harder for a small market team to come by than a coach.

Re: “Griz Roster Prognosis: In Order of Probable Return

I totally agree with the assessment of Leuer. He could be groomed as a nice backup for Gasol in the high post, if he can shoot consistently. His smaller size could be an advantage if the Grizz go with a more up tempo style with the bench. There is a lot more athletic potential there, ala what the Clipps do with their bench. He seemed very comfortable in that role in limited time. Can't beat the price, either.

Do you think a guy like CJ Watson would be a good fill in for Bayless and Dooling (if he opts out of his deal in NJ)? He played well as a reserve guard in Chicago. We know he can shoot. He has high level playoff experience. Could he kill two birds with one stone as a guy to work with Wroton, as well as play more point than Bayless did?

With the struggles at backup PG, having Prince for another year and using him off the bench could actually be a stabilizer. He's a valuable ball handler and great passer, and could help take pressure off of Wroton if the Grizz play him more next year. Plus, Prince would probably get a lot more latitude to work in the post with against bench competition. The Grizz couldn't use him as much there in his starting role, with Z-Bo and Gasol dominating that space, but he can score a LOT more consistently in that role. He still may not be worth that high contract, but this would maximize his positives.

Do you think the Grizz can get themselves into the FA market for a legitimate outside shooter? Watson would be a nice, inexpensive option, but do you think they will be able to afford a guys like Korver, Reddick, or Belinelli?

Re: “Suns 96, Grizzlies 90 — This Defeat Was No Orphan

The NBA is a player's league. It doesn't matter what system the coach wants to run. In this game, it's be flexible or die. Since Popovich was mentioned two posts ago, why not go back and check some tape. The Spurs completely overhauled their team and their offense after getting bounced by the Grizz two years ago. Last I checked, they are doing pretty well. Pop rolled with the changes (which I'm sure he had a big hand in shaping), because that's what great NBA coaches do. They don't whine to the media about management every chance they get.

Re: “Griz Retain Darrell Arthur, Recalibrate Free Agency Goals

Don't the Grizz still have their one-time amnesty still available? If so, could you see them using it to free up cap space in lieu of a trade over the next year or two. Who do you think they might use it on?

Re: “Good Morning Griz Fans

I knew this kid's primal scream would show up today! At least he was at the game. I was having an all-too-similar reaction in a hotel room. Surprised I didn't get a call from the front desk last night.

Re: “About Last Night: Desperation Heaves and a Big Game Friday

Any Spurs fan complaining about the refs needs to check themselves. It isn't conspiracy, it's NBA ref culture. There has always been a star/established player double standard, and it's even worse on the home floor. Everyone knows it. You're either ignorant or stupid if you don't acknowledge it. If you don't believe me, go back and attemptnto objectively count the times Manu has walked in games 2-5. It hasn't been called YET.

Re: “Game 26 Notebook: Grizzlies 113, Bobcats 80

The Rockets game tonight will be a real barometer on where things are headed. They have owned the Grizz for a while now, so a win would be an indication that the improved defense and the gelling of the player rotations are more trend than flash in the pan or the level of recent competition.
