Re: “UPDATE: Zoo Seeks Help in Finding Sign Vandals

Just a few observations from the above comments, Destroying of defacing private property is a criminal offense not civil disobedience. Civil disobedience is tying yourself to a tree and being arrested for trespassing to support your cause. Secondly calling this the "will of the people" is questionable as I was at the zoo yesterday with my grandchildren and when I arrived at 11:00 there were about 3-4 people under an erected awning on the area not allotted for parking and when I left about 1:00 the crowd had swelled to 7-8 protesters speaking to the police across the fence. No one else was anywhere on the "Greensward" and thousands of people were ignoring the "don't park here" signs and entering the zoo. As to all the other comments I have seen alluding to the abundant parking elsewhere, the streets that allowed parking were full. The streets in front of the many homes with "save the Greensward" signs all had no parking, tow away signs. I guess they don't want you to park on the Greensward or in front of their home. There are possibly parking places somewhere that entail a great walk just to get to the zoo but so many of the negative commenters fail to realize that a majority of the zoo visitors are elderly and very young children that can only walk short distances before needing to rest, i.e. grand parents bringing their grand children. Once in the zoo there are many places to stop and rest or even ride the tram through the zoo to get from exhibit to exhibit. I am a great believer in saving green space in urban areas and am incensed to see trees bulldozed to make way for apartments, offices, businesses or non-essential enterprises that do not have other choices on where to locate. But sometimes facts and logic need to take precedent. The zoo is a great learning experience for all people and is probably the biggest tourist attraction and revenue source for Memphis and nearby parking is critical for its continued success. Hatred, wanton destruction, false information and name calling will accomplish nothing but more of the same.

Re: “Police Monitor Greensward Protest

Oak tree, thanks for verifying my post. Not only do you try to deny to others things you don't agree with, your first response is personal name calling. I understand that you can't debate intelligently

typical liberal response, if you don't agree with something, ruin it for everyone else.

Re: “Digital Greensward Campaign Seeks to 'Cage the Zoo'

Typical liberal response. If you don't like something try to make sure no one else can like it. Distorted facts, enuendo, etc

Re: “Zoo-Tied Donors Gave to Hedgepeth Campaign

Lets see, the Zoo annually brings thousands of tourists and Millions of dollars to Memphis coffers and area merchants. The Greensward brings $0 and if under city control, would be costly for upkeep. Yes, do follow the money, there are numerous greenswards in the city but only one Zoo.
