Re: “Fincher Didn't Know Memphis was in 8th District, Herron Tells Crowd

Roy, are you ever going to say anything positive? Can you give us your ideas about what you plan to do? Are you going to vote along with Pelosi? I've got news for you. People in this part of the 8th District don't know anything about Roy Herron other than negative, old-school politics.

Re: “Letter From the Editor

Future robberies will most likely be directed towards restaurants banning guns. No one in their right mind will attampt a crime in a restaurant knowing that any number of unknowns may be armed. It has been long known that the mere presence of a male figure in a bank lobby, armed or not, will deter most bank robberies. Criminals, for the most part, will avoid a confrontation and move on to the easier target. we'll see similar stats going forward with restaurants. The losers will be the one's banning guns.

Re: “Letter from the Editor

Well, Bruce, I read your earlier article and I thought it was very well-written. Reading this one, I can't figure out where you are. It sounds like you are on the fence on a lot of these gun-related issues. Let me give you some advice. Get your issues resolved before you pull out a gun, or you may very well be the next unfortunate victim. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm guessing most people who have gotten gun permits are fed up with the crime and are strongly intent on reducing their chances of being a victim. The percentage of those people walking into a bar and waving a gun around will be significantly less than that of the general population. A much higher percentage than the general population, however, won't hesitate to shoot someone that puts them in imminent fear of death or harm. That's where the difference is. And, quite frankly, I don't plan to beg for anything with a man that has decided to walk into my house and do me harm. If he had my interests at heart, he wouldn't be there. You don't mention the fact that we've had a few beheadings in this country, something that heretofore is unheard of. Yet, nobody is suggesting we ban or register knives. Quite frankly, if I'm confronted by someone coming into my house at night, I hope he's got a gun. And hey, the next time you are in a bar, why don't you ask how many people are carrying knives?
