Re: “Waiting on Judgment Day

"... it's going to take dedication and commitment and time and unrelenting activism the kind of citizen involvement that drove the civil rights movement and stopped the Vietnam War ..."

Make it so. Count me in.

Re: “Life Its Ownself, No Filter

Sous vide pork chops, eh? Tell me more! I'll contemplate it whilst eating my sous vide Memphis ribs. After photographing them and posting the pics on social media of course. He said, ironically.

Re: “10 Things Prince Didn’t Know About Me

I never bought a Prince album. I did, however, illegally download a lot of it. Because, you know, I could.

Re: “Medium Cool

Bruce, you've gone too far. How DARE you insult the noble brotherhood of "Siding Salesmen".

I prefer to think of DT as more like the guy who owns a bunch sleazy and failed businesses, and has the audacity to show up uninvited to the party referring to himself as a "Business Genius, and VERY, very rich to boot". Oh ...... Wait a minute. Never mind.

So maybe we can just call him what he is. The turd in the punch bowl of the 2016 election year. And that's not cool.

Re: “The “Entitled” Generation

As you alluded to, it is no longer possible to work a part-time job (or even a full-time or near-full-time job) while in college and during summers and put yourself through college. Even the BEST paying summer jobs will barely pay room & board these days, let alone ludicrous tuition. The rate at which tuition has soared has SO far outpaced wages it is beyond comprehension. Parents, even those with two-incomes and modest lifestyles, can no longer make easy decisions about how they're going to fund college for their kids. When small, private, liberal arts colleges are charging tuition in the tens of thousands of dollars per year, something is terribly broken. A college near me, with a good (but not stellar) reputation is now at $34k per year, and that's BEFORE dorm, meals, books, etc. Even the tuition at State Universities is beyond the reach of many. For example, right now, MTSU in Murfreesboro is at about $8,500 per year (for a "full load") in just tuition and "fees" before food, lodging, books, etc. From info on their website, a shared dorm and a typical meal plan and a modest book allowance essentially double this amount. $17k per year. Bringing the total of a four-year education at a State School like MTSU to almost $65-70k. Ouch.

Re: “Wrestling With the Truth

"How do you monetize the digital product at a level that pays for a decent-sized news staff?" Bingo. The central conundrum of the newspaper business these days. And make sure that staff includes a competent copy editor or three. I'm appalled at what I see passing as "final product" in SO much content these days. Does anybody read this stuff?? Not talking about the Flyer specifically, it's true of everything .... just everything .... that gets offered up as news these days. (spoken as the totally biased spouse of a former dedicated editor who got the axe a few years ago in a broad-stroke staff reduction at a mid-state daily).
