The other respondent was quite correct: concealed or open carry is legal in Tennessee. It's a 'handgun carry permit' - nothing more, nothing less. What the author of the story may have heard was the person from Rangemaster saying something like, "You don't want to strap on your pistol and walk down the street - it makes the police nervous." Which, depending upon which officer you talk to, may or may not be the case. In my carry permit class (not Rangemaster) the instructor put it plain and simple and peppered it with common sense when he said, "Why on earth would you want to strap it on where everyone can see it? Then, someone walking up behind you could snatch it out of the holster ... why show all the cards in your hand?" I tend to agree. Good article, by the way.
