Jus' Blues

On Friday, as part of its Music Awards Week, the Jus' Blues Music Foundation is hosting a "Blues Crawl" on Beale Street, starting at 9 p.m. A $10 wristband will get you into all the clubs to see performers such as the blazingly talented swamp-blues guitarist Kenny Neal and Zakiya Hooker, daughter of legendary John Lee Hooker.

On Saturday, it's back to Beale for the Big Chitlin' Cook-Off and Blues Fest at W.C. Handy Performing Arts Park, starting around 9 a.m. Part of this event is the "Sista Big Bone" contest, with participants weighing 185 pounds or more. A weigh-in will be at Miss Polly's, and according to Jus' Blues' Charles Mitchell, those who don't make the weight will be fed chicken and waffles until they do.
