Just Breathe

For every emotion, there's a corresponding breath. While relaxed, the breath is long and even, but anxiety can lead to short, labored breaths.

"We can help you relax the breathing process and help you handle those emotions," says Nancy DiSilverio, instructor for the five-day "Art of Living" course, which teaches controlled breathing, meditation, and basic yoga.

The course, which will be held from Friday, June 6th, through Thursday, June 10th, at the Neshoba Unitarian Universalist Church, centers around a breathing technique known as Sudarshan Kriya, or healing breath, which incorporates natural rhythms to relieve stress and help people focus on the present.

"Anyone who can breathe will enjoy this program, and anyone who wants to enjoy life will benefit," DiSilverio says. "Often we don't realize we're stressed, or we use coping mechanisms like eating, shopping, or golf to relieve stress. But those activities don't really make us feel better."

Attendance at all five days of the course is mandatory. Cost for the workshop is $375, or $200 for seniors and students.
