Re: “U of M May Raise Minimum Wage to $10.10 Per Hour

While I am in favor of raising the minimum wage, I believe Ms. Rimmer's argument that she should receive $15.00 per hour because she has been on the job 22 years to be flawed. Pay should be in part determined by seniority but more so by skill sets offered to an employer. In Ms. Rimmer's case, she actually threw away anywhere from $200 to $700 a semester by not taking advantage of a major benefit offered to State and University employees - free tuition. As both a State and University employee, Ms. Rimmer could have taken up to three classes free per semester. In doing so she could have improved her skill sets, increased her employment value to the marketplace, and provided an excellent example to her children. It might have been tough, but it's not anything that numerous others, myself included, haven't done.
