Re: “Another View: 'Don't Big-Box Wine!'

I shop at a locally owned grocery store, Superlo Foods, and I would like to be able to buy wine there. I would likely continue to shop at my favorite locally owned liquor store, Liquor Depot, but I would also like to be able to buy mixers, wine accessories and the like there. I feel for the liquor stores that will lose business or go out of business when and if this outdated law changes, but their self-interests (and let's stop pretending that it's anything else)shouldn't outweight the interests of Tennessee citizens.

Re: “FROM MY SEAT: Who Needs the BCS When We Have the NFL?

I gotta disagree. I was pulling for the Titans, Colts and Falcons, and my teams all lost their first playoff game. But that's what's so great about the NFL--the games are played on the field, not on a computer. Also, the fact that you're 4-8 (like the Chargers at one point) doesn't mean your season is over. Teams like Arizona and Philadelphia are on hot streaks, and look like the best teams in the NFL right now. If Arizona is so terrible and undeserving of playing in the championship game, then why couldn't Carolina beat them at home? And look at Philadelphia and Baltimore, both of which had to win two road games to make their conference championship game. Parity is alive and well in the NFL, and though the playoff system isn't perfect, it's a million times better than the BCS. Like March Madness (the best championship tournament in all of sports, IMHO), there will always be "bubble" teams that some think should have gotten in. But ultimately, games are played to decide winners, and if you can't best a foe on their turf/court, then you go home.
