Re: “"2-Shay" Wins District 98 House Seat, Will Take Office Next Week

Chism did not support Davis. A 600 vote turnout is not a mandate for any candidate -- sad commentary.

Re: “Rocking and Rolling with the Willie Herenton Campaign

He won five elections without those low voter turnout, "we have arrived, comfortable, I got mine" intelligent, educated, African-Americans you describe.

Re: “Failing the Test

Every four years when the county elections come around, so-called Democrats consistently surface strongly supporting Republicans over Democrats. They consistently complain that the Black Democrats are not qualified and thus prefer supporting Republicans.

I do not understand why the local party allows these demopublicans to serve in the leadership of their party. These people should be independents who vote for and support candidates they like which many times on the local level are not candidates with a Democratic philosophy.

Republicans never have this problem they support their party and they support ONLY Republican candidates with a history of being Republican.

There is an elephant in the room that the local Democratic Party refuses to acknowledge.

Re: “The Politics of Skate Parks

Whenever such a major decision is made, the residents of that community should be advised and asked for their input. The Parks Director did NOT talk with or inform Glenview residents of this decision. There is a Glenview neigbhorhood organization that is very active and cares about its neighborhood. Now, they are talking about putting the skate park in another neigborhood without obtaining input from the residents.

Re: “Rep. Cohen the Subject of Two New York Times Analyses

“I vote like a black woman,” Congressman Cohen has said many times in addition to saying it again in his NY Times interview. What exactly does that mean and does he think all Black women vote alike? African-American men and women are as diverse in their thinking as they are in the shades of completion they come in.

Re: “GADFLY: The Question is Race

"He was arrested because he could not control his mouth or his temper." So this is cause to be arrested in this country? And, based on what I have read and seen on TV, it's the policemen's (who stick together no matter what) word against Mr. Gates. But as you said above, you've not had this experience other than through those who you work with who have not been arrested. Curious, why weren't they arrested?

Re: “News of Ford Sr.-Cohen Alliance Hits Herenton Campaign With a Wallop

"including longtime civil rights luminary Maxine Smith and her husband Vasco Smith, a former county commissioner, as well as former Judge Russell Sugarmon and his wife Gina Sugarmon — had been known either as influential Herenton supporters"

Jackson, most of the people listed on that host committee list worked against Herenton when Carol Chumney and Herman Morris ran against him in 2007.

The only two surprises on there are George Brown and O.C. Pleasant who is a close friend of Ford's.

"Some observers of the pending Herenton-Cohen showdown find it hard to believe that Herenton is serious about the challenge to Cohen — especially in the face of the incumbent white congressman’s 4-1 routing last year of a well-financed black primary opponent, corporate attorney Nikki Tinker. Underscoring the fact of that victory, Tinker’s own employer and chief supporter, Pinnacle Airlines entrepreneur Phil Trenary has himself signed on as a sponsor of Cohen’s forthcoming fundraisers."

He is not Nikki Tinker. Analyze in support in precinct by precinct in District 9 during the 2007 election.

"(or whatever else that most recent gambit of his really is)" Local media insist on taking their bias and personal feelings to the job.
