Are you a plaid enthusiast? Can you tell the difference between a Baird and a Balfour or distinguish between a MacAlister and a Maclean?

On Sunday, September 27th, at 11 a.m., Clanjamfry, a Scottish festival hosted by Evergreen Presbyterian Church, culminates with its annual Kirkin of the Tartans, a veritable parade of vibrant plaids. Each of the Scottish clans represented at the three-day festival presents its tartan for a blessing while drums bang out a martial beat and bagpipes sound.

Clanjamfry kicks off on Friday evening with a ceildh (think "Scotland's Got Talent"), and Saturday is a day-long celebration of all things Celtic, featuring traditional food, crafts, and sheep-herding demonstrations. Vendors offer everything from Highland garb and broadswords to jewelry and genealogical services.

Bands scheduled to perform include Legacy from Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis' Sallymacs, and the Wolf River Pipe and Drum Ensemble. Saturday's program culminates with a performance in the Evergreen sanctuary by Brian McNeill, a fiddler, singer, storyteller, and founding member of the Battlefield Band.

So put on a kilt and a handmade Balmoral hat or strip down to nothing but a coat of blue paint. Clanjamfry's got a little something for the Scot in all of us, even if you can't tell a Ferguson from a Falkirk.

Tickets to the festival are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Tickets for Brian McNeill are $20 and available the day of the event.
