Re: “CBHS Student Not Allowed to Bring Same-Sex Date to Homecoming

I'm reading a lot of "CBHS is one of the best schools in the area" and just feel the need to point out that it's really not on the academic level of schools like MUS and WSHS. White Station (a public school that's garnered the envy of private schools in Memphis) and Memphis University School are usually neck-and-neck for the highest number of national merit scholarship finalists every year, quiz-bowl championships, and other academic Olympiad programs; whereas CBHS rarely produces more than two or three national merit finalists per year, has never won a quiz bowl or a science/math Olympiad tournament. Just because a school is private, religious, and expensive, it doesn't mean the quality of education is going to be better. Sports is a different issue of course :-p

But yea - wearing a tie and slacks isn't necessary for a quality education, as made evident by WSHS (which the media loves to crucify at every chance to dispel the truth that academic achievement can be obtained at a free public school). And while I'm sure the kid has no choice in where he goes to high school, it's a moot argument to say "CBHS is the only choice to go if one wants a good education" - that's BS.
